Had the privilege of having Sean Connery on our flight back (you remember him, he used to play ‘James Bond’), I guess the feeling of privilege was mutual. On arrival Sean was first out of the traps and emerged from Customs with 3 security personnel. A young boy in a red football strip went up to him and asked politely for his autograph only to get a gruff ‘NO’ from the ageing star. Sean then tapped one of the security guys on the shoulder who then announced:
‘Sir Sean will not be signing autographs or having photographs taken today. he just wants to enjoy being home!!’

At that he left the arrivals hall. Somebody shouted out ‘Tosser!’ but I’m not sure who it was aimed at.
I leave you to form your own conclusions. Answers on a postcard.

Last few days has been taken up with the painting, some afternoon naps, frolicks in the pool, and GIFT SHOPPING.
Now Jim likes Gift shopping. Each gift you will be glad to know, has been carefully chosen with the recipient in mind, not once but many times. So when you fortunate people open your gifts, spare a thought for the poor guy who had to be there by his side during the selection process.

Last night we visited Kissimmee Old town, where there was another biker display. Some pics here for those of you who like that sort of thing. Ate at the tex Mex restaurant (family run). Managed to sneak out without leaving a tip (Yeah! More HIGH FIVES!!). Family run so they’ll get to keep the profits.
Tonight it’s back to House of BLUES. If we don’t leave a tip there we’ll probably get arrested. Should be someone playing music there, so Jim might get another request in.

This may be the last blog unless airport on sunday has wi-fi.

Going to see England v USA tomorrow. Will have to look as if we’re supporting U.S. Ooh, that could be difficult. Build up on TV as I type this. Jim has just arrived back with me and says the ‘American boys all look good’.

GULP!!

Last night in Cedar Key, we met a guy named Sammy in the hotel bar. Sammy’s a 60-something with a fancy watch that sparkled and a big ring to match. He’s in the laminate flooring business that isn’t doing so well so now he’s formed his own business selling BARBECUE SAUCE. Apparently it’s his own recipe he created when he was a kid (doesn’t say much for his Mum’s cooking). You can check him on the net at Sammy’s Seasonings. Paul Newman did something similar years ago, trading on his name as a film star. I’m not so sure “Sammy of Laminate Flooring World” will cut it quite the same. Maybe if he’d been carrying bottles of his super sauces, we could think differently, but unfortunately, he wasn’t carrying any free samples with him.

Sammy also has a condo that isn’t doing so well and is going to sue BP for his losses.

Hey, maybe I can take a leaf out of Sammy’s book and sue BP for the clothes Dave is ruining.

Thought we’d run a caption competition for anybody bored out there, so if you can think of anything funny, or not funny, to go with Jim’s picture with the cannon, then there’s a prize for the winner. I think all entrants should be over 18 years of age.

We’re disappointed we won’t be here for the flag retirement ceremony – that must be one hell of a gig. probably a speech and dedication to go with every bruised and tatty old flag. Maybe something we can start back home….

Jim was disappointed that he never got to drive the golf cart, although looking on the bright side, at least we’re not sending this from a hospital bed…..

Checked into the Island Hotel which apparently is haunted by ghosts, although none seen as yet. Might just be a marketing ploy.

Cedar Key is very different from the cities we’ve been to. Here it’s all laid back and very slow. Sat at ‘Coconuts’ and had a few beers while the pelicans fished and the sun went down. Could have been romantic but Jim really isn’t my type – and I’m sure the feeling’s mutual. Maybe the wives can be persuaded to come here one day.

Back at the hotel some weird guy was playing his own interpretation of ‘Danny Boy’ on a fiddle. He was a cross between Worzel Gummidge and the professor in ‘Back to the Future’ and went into some sort of trance when he played. As he was putting the violin back into his case, Jim made the fatal mistake of telling him he was talented and that was it, there was no stopping him. That is, unless you went to bed.

Jim carried on and even went back to ‘Coconuts’ with the weirdo, where he took a video of the band (to be posted later) while others slept, watched over by the friendly ghosts.

Hotel just off Bourbon Street, which is a string of bars and restaurants with the odd lingerie ‘Gift Shop’ thrown in. There will be some people out there who will think it tastefully done.

Took a picture of an old guy holding a board ‘Big Ass Beers Sold Here’. Never seen a guy move so quick as he got off his ass and chased me for a dollar tip. Took a pic of the idiot in the hand grenade suit. He asked for a dollar too, but got nothing as I knew I’d be able to outrun him if it came to it – but it might have been a close run thing though.

Tried to get Jim on to the Bucking Bronco. thought a picture of Jivin’ Jim falling off a horse would be cool, but Jim declined – killjoy!

Went into a bar (Jim’s choice) with plush velvet seats and live basketball on big TV screens – COOL! Over on one side was an acrobat climbing up a pole doing stretching exercises. Very dull – you see better on ‘Britain’s Got Talent’ and not a patch on Cirque du Soleil!

Tourists and Joe Public gawk and drool over the bikers’ two-wheeled manhood, whilst the guys talk pistons and gaskets, and about cool chicks they have seen and last year’s Top Gear Xmas Special.

There were maybe 300 bikes there last night. With this road trip we have covered 1400 miles on the open road so far. How many bikes have we seen? – just 2.
